Mukura BYOND won the Good Design Indonesia (GDI) Best 2021 award, a wonderful news from designer Irianto Purnomo Hadi and Mukura Ceramics.

The year 2021 brings both challenges and blessing for Mukura Ceramics. One of them is the GDI Best award given to Mukura BYOND, an unprecedented breezeblock design innovation. The Good Design Award itself is a design event by the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag). This event is a program of the Kemendag to improve design and quality of export products in order to strengthen Indonesian exports.

This year, Mukura competed with 247 other products participating in 20 categories. A total of 11 judges from various design agencies and associations conducted the judging process. Among them are, Mira Prihatini, CEO and Creative Director of Mira and Associates, and Makoto Hashikura Design’s CEO, Makoto Hashikura. Mukura BYOND won the 11th category, namely Housing Fixtures, and won the GDI Best award.

Mukura BYOND Product Line Up

Together with designer Irianto Purnomo Hadi, Mukura presents Mukura BYOND, which is an innovative ventilation block or breezeblock. This product allows for seamless installation of breezeblocks. So, the end result looks more dynamic, modern, and elegant. The Mukura BYOND set consists of several products, including the Triangle L which is triangular in shape, along with Bent 75° and Bent 90° to form a curve.

The Second Time

Previously, Mukura had participated and took home the GDI 2018 award. In the same category, Mukura and designer Zenin Adrian brought Dashdot. This beloved minimalist breezeblock managed to get the GDI Best, and represented Indonesia at the GDI international event in Japan. Dashdot also won the GDI Award for the House Building Materials category. Dashdot’s unique functionality and design earned it the nickname “product of the climate”.

Not Over Yet

However, Mukura BYOND still has to compete with 19 other products to win GDI of The Year. This award is for the best product among 20 winners from each category. After that, several products will represent Indonesia at the international GDI in Japan. So, for the second time, Mukura can represent Indonesians in the international level.
