Advantages of rattan

Here are some advantages of rattan

  1. Cheaper than wooden furniture. To get the same natural effect, wooden furniture tends to be more expensive. So many people choose rattan to save money.
  2. Lighter. Having the same natural effect, rattan is much lighter than wood. So, it’s easier to move rattan furniture around.
  3. Attractive and varied designs. The design depends on the weaving technique. There are so many weaving techniques, so the style of furniture also varies.
  4. The manufacturing technique is easier. Because the method is by weaving, making the furniture is not as difficult as wooden furniture. That’s one of the reasons why they can be cheaper.
  5. Raw materials are available in various regions. Rattan is found in many areas in Indonesia. Because the materials can be gathered easily, the manufacturing process is cheaper.

Disadvantages of rattan

  1. It’s harder to clean. Because there’s a lot of weave, this furniture usually has many holes and narrow corners. It is in these corners that dust and dirt can accumulate. As a result, cleaning it is more difficult.
  2. Not durable. Because it is not as sturdy as wood, it is usually less durable. Especially, if it is located outdoors and exposed to sunlight and rain water continuously. That is why many turn to synthetic rattan, because this material is more durable.
  3. Not very strong. The weaving technique is not very strong. Many rattan furniture combines with other materials such as iron and mild steel.
  4. Prone to insects and other animals. Rattan is a favorite of certain insects as well as rats and other rodents. So, if you don’t pay close attention, these animals will damage your rattan.
  5. Difficult to maintain. Treatment of this material includes giving a certain coating material once a year. Otherwise, the rattan can be damaged and the appearance won’t be as good.
