Next to a peaceful beach with blue waves at the West of Java Island, the five stars resort stands. The 15-stories building stands out with its terracotta-red color, a zero-maintenance facade system made of ceramic granite breezeblocks.

Design Narrative

As a place for families to gather and spend holidays together, the design of this seaside resort features openness and breathability. Aside from that, it’s suitable for buildings in a tropical climate such as Indonesia.

Movenpick Resort Carita is designed by Budiman Hendropurnomo and team from Denton Corker Marshall Jakarta. The facade features breezeblocks – not just any breezeblock, but ones made of ceramic granite. The two locations, lobby and facade, feature custom breezeblock of different designs.

First, the lobby, which features glossy black breezeblocks in Fullhouse pattern. The gloss finish gives elegance and class at first impression of the resort.

Then the same granite breezeblock is used as the facade, but in different finish. This time, it’s in terracotta red and matte finish. The facade gives the building a striking red color that is visible from couple kilometers away.

In Use

Quoting from DCM Jakarta team, the breathable facade offers an impression of the building breathing along the waves of Anyer beach.

The breezeblocks being robust and lightweight are suitable as a facade of multi-story buildings.

Moreover, the custom patterns in different finishes give separation between entrance and main building, while still maintaining the cohesiveness.

Overall, the project showcases openness in building designs in tropical climates. Other than that, it also shows how ceramic granite (porcelain-grade) breezeblocks is a great material choice for zero-maintenance facade system.
